"Glorious Galaxy"

colored pencil, watercolor, gel pen

9 in. x 11 in.

In this piece, I aimed to explore the bittersweet experience of transitioning from childhood to adolescence. I chose to depict my subject in a swirling galaxy as if being carried up by a gust of wind and stardust. When the galaxy first emerges from behind his head, it is rather simple and 2D, demonstrating how a child's view of the world starts small. As the swirl progresses, however, the galaxy becomes more dynamic and mysterious. The stars become miniscule white specks among clouds laced with ambiguous colors. A once simple galaxy transforms into an extraordinary multitude of space. While growing up seems daunting and bewildering, the wonder that comes from expanding one's world is highly unparalleled.

Just as lotus flowers appear bold and beautiful when their roots are in the murkiest waters, we can also persevere in the face of opposition.

"Through My Head"

Receiving criticism is inevitable as we live our lives; however, it is important to maintain a strong sense of self-confidence and let empty insults past right through your head and encourage you to become stronger.

While those around you may seek opportunities to put you down and control your life, remember that you are always in control of what you believe is true or false. In reality, the haters are really just playing pretend in your playground.

"Riding on Freedom"

colored pencil, watercolor, gel pen

9 in. x 11 in.

This piece is meant to illustrate the calming relief one experiences when they decide to freely ride through life in their own style. The air of freedom and confidence is as sweet as a morning ride through a fresh forest.
